VROC at Kickstand Lodge 2006

These pictures come from my three night visit to the Kickstand Lodge in Stecoah, NC. Thanks to Fred and Mo, who lived up to their growing reputation as some of the finest hosts in VROC.

A couple of scenic views from the Cherohala Skyway.

If you look closely in the middle of the picture, you will see a large snake sunning on the log. No one volunteered to climb down to determine exactly what kind of snake it was.

Skid, TOK (the other Kelly), Sandy, Freebirds, and Steam on the bridge overlooking the falls.

Skid, TOK (the other Kelly), Sandy, and Steam on the bridge overlooking the falls. This was the most cheerful Steam looked all day.

Tom Sigler and Toby check out the waterfall.

Some pictures of a scenic waterfall located a few miles off of the Cherohala Skyway.

Skid makes friends with a little dog in the truck. The dog was wagging it's tail in a friendly manner. Shortly after this picture, the dog attempted to bite Skid.

Steam and Freebirds at lunch in Telico Plains, TN. Some of the more unruly members of the pack. Steam later disclosed he had made up his mind to "whip Coyote's ass" due to route selection later in the ride. Fortunately the shortcut worked out and the anticipated whoopin' did not take place.

The pack stops to take in some Kodak moments along the Cherohala Skyway. Pics include Skid, Sandy, Steam, Slammer, Jim Ayers, Tom Sigler, and Toby (adopted by VROC).

Slammer gets something from beneath the seat of his ride, affectionally known as "Weedeater". We promised Slammer we would not re-tell the story that he was once passed by a bicycle while riding Weedeater, so, we won't discuss it.

A few views across the Kickstand Lodge. Fred and Mo have that place looking like a well groomed park. We later discovered that bright thing in the sky was the sun.

The creek that runs along the back of KSL.

The Coyote campsite at the back corner of KSL. A beautiful spot.

Scooter hopes no one notices him walking his foo foo dog.

Socializing on the KSL back porch.

The crowd begins to jockey for position for the chow line.

Jim Ayers arrives in the rain.

I take a picture of Stewey taking a picture of me.

Scooter and Skid swapping lies

Scooter and Jan arrive to say hello to everyone.

Fred runs the grill while Sandy demonstrates her ability to always be at the head of the food line.

In keeping with Sherm's tradition, there must be a picture of the food.
Fred is grilling the excellent ribs and pork steaks for the feast.

Skid, Slammer, and Chunk hold court at the KSL picnic tables.

Stewey and Slammer almost fall asleep listening to Skid. I think Stewey was the one who suggested that Stecoah was a Cherokee word that translates to "Feet never dry".
He also described a portion of his trip to KSL as "Making excellent time in the wrong direction".

Skid explains the finer points of nuclear physics while Slammer listens intently.
